Scientist – Global Ocean Data
INNOVIM, LLC is seeking a computational scientist to support the development and implementation of a new Global Ocean Data Assimilation System. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists at the NOAA National Center for Weather & Climate Prediction and the Univ. of Maryland. The position is located in College Park, MD and candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree in atmospheric and oceanic sciences, applied mathematics, scientific computing, physics, or related field.
The tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Developing a state-of-the-art ocean data assimilation system, specifically the Hybrid Ensemble Kalman Filter/3D-Var for the ocean
- Processing observational data streams for in situ temperature and salinity profiles, satellite altimetry, and satellite along-track L2 sea surface temperature (SST)
- Processing surface forcing fields from atmospheric reanalyses for simulation experiments and evaluation
- Leading the technical transition from the development to operations.

Requirements:
The candidate must have experience conducting large-scale experiments in a High Performance Computing (HPC) environment.
The applicant is required to have a strong background in scientific programming languages (e.g., Fortran90 and C), UNIX and shell scripting and scientific software packages (e.g. NetCDF Climate Data Operators (CDO) and/or NetCDF Operators (NCO), Grads etc.) and an interest in developing a world class operational ocean analysis using state-of-art supercomputing at NOAA. A candidate who is self-motivated and has worked well in a team environment is preferred.
The candidate must be a US Citizen able to pass a NACI clearance, or Permanent Resident or foreigners holding a working visa who has already passed a NACI clearance.
