Research Scientist – Georgia Tech
Job Summary
The Paleoclimate and Climate Change Lab at Georgia Tech seeks a Research Scientist to serve as Lab Manager to support and contribute to a diverse portfolio of research projects. The Lab Manager will manage day-to-day operations of the lab’s analytical facilities including IRMS, ICP-OES, cavity ringdown spectrometers, and help student research assistants and visiting researchers alike. The Lab Manager will be supported in achieving their professional development goals, which may include the development of independent research projects including fostering external collaborations, drafting of manuscripts, and preparation of grants.
Responsibilities
Minimum responsibilities include instrument operation, scheduling and maintenance; lab purchasing and related paperwork; sample preparation; data and metadata analysis, quality control, and archival; training and oversight of student research assistants and other lab personnel; ensuring compliance with environmental health and safety guidelines. The Lab Manager will be supported in achieving their professional development goals, which may include the development of independent research projects including fostering external collaborations, drafting of manuscripts, and preparation of grants.
Required Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in geosciences, chemistry, biological sciences, or environmental science (or related area) and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
- A Master’s degree in geosciences, chemistry, biological sciences, or environmental science (or related area) and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
- A Doctoral degree in geosciences, chemistry, biological sciences, or environmental science (or related area).
Preferred Qualifications
M.S. or Ph. D in geosciences, chemistry, biological sciences, or environmental science, with a background in paleoclimate research preferred
Experience working with high-resolution paleoclimate archives (corals, speleothems)
Experience operating a IRMS and/or ICPMS and/or ICP-OES
Demonstrated experience with data analysis and visualization techniques, with proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. MATLAB, R, Python)
Demonstrated ability to lead and/or contribute to peer-reviewed publications
Experience in the development and management of sponsored research programs
Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate research assistants
