RBR2020 cohort
RBR will be selecting up to 20 outstanding early-career researchers from around the world to join the RBR2020 cohort. Open to early-career researchers (post-doctoral scientists/engineers and pre-tenured faculty), the RBR2020 cohort will bring together scientists from around the world to enable innovative ocean measurements through collaborative workshops, technical developments, demonstration programs, and SciComm mentorship. The 20 early-career ocean scientists and engineers selected for the cohort will participate in a two-year program to develop their project ideas, enable measurements, and expand their research network with special support from RBR and established mentors.
During the two-year program, cohort members will have the opportunity to:
- Borrow RBR equipment for proof-of-concept deployments to motivate future projects and proposal.
- Spend a week at RBR’s headquarters working with scientists, engineers, and calibration technicians to develop and test new ideas with RBR sensors, loggers, and systems.
- Leverage preferred RBR2020 cohort pricing for all collaborators on large proposals.
- Earn a $1,000 travel stipend to present research at international conferences.
- Receive consultation from SciComm professionals and mentorship by established scientists to develop communications plan, expand research network, pitch ideas, find future collaborators/funders, and communicate results and value with media.
Pitches for the RBR2020 cohort will be reviewed between September 15th to December 15th, 2019. Cohort members will be named on January 10th, 2020. The first meeting of the RBR2020 cohort will convene at a special technical workshop session proceeding the Ocean Sciences Meeting in San Diego on February 17th, 2020. Each member will have the opportunity to give a three minute presentation about their previous work and some ideas for the future. The goal of the initial meeting will be to facilitate introductions, spark ideas, and consider collaborations across disciplines and borders.
To apply to join the RBR2020 cohort, send your CV, list of two references, and a one-page summary that highlights your demonstrated successes in ocean science or engineering and outlines some of your innovative ideas for measuring the blue planet. Your proposal should include why your measurement ideas are important to advance ocean science and how collaboration with RBR may enable these advancements. International applications are especially encouraged. Email submissions by December 15th 2019, to RBR2020@rbr-global.com.
