Postdoctoral positions in Climate/Ocean Physics and Machine Learning in the Mathematics department at NYU Courant.

NYU Courant’s Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science is seeking outstanding researchers with strong physical insight and analytical ability to join the research group of Prof. Laure Zanna (http://laurezanna.github.io ). Some of our recent work includes: ocean dynamics and climate change, air-sea interactions, predictability in mid-latitudes and stochastic parameterizations of turbulent ocean processes. We are primarily interested in researchers who can incorporate ideas and tools from machine learning to solve fundamental problems in ocean/climate dynamics and modeling.

The possible project topics include: assessing the predictability of climate phenomena, improving subgrid-scale parameterizations, the
inference of climate variables/processes from sparse data (e.g.
paleoproxy or satellite data), uncertainty quantification for ensemble
simulations. The earliest start date is September 2019. These positions are full time appointments initially for one year and renewable conditional on satisfactory performance and funding.

The Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science is a unit of the department of Mathematics, within the NYU Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. NYU Courant is a highly respected institute for cutting-edge research and advanced training in applied mathematics and computer science. NYU Courant has strong links with the NYU Center for Data Science (CDS), home for the NYU Moore-Sloan Data Science Environment (http://msdse.org ). NYU Courant is in the very heart of the world’s leading artistic and financial center in downtown Manhattan.

Deadline: June 30th 2019
