Postdoctoral Opportunity – Scripps Institution of Oceanography
Description of the Position
The postdoctoral researcher will join an effort to develop a “Spray 2” next generation underwater glider. The postdoc will assist the principal investigator and professional engineers in the design, construction, and field testing of prototypes. The postdoc will take a lead role in documenting all aspects of the project, including writing up processes and procedures and organizing written material. The postdoc will liaison with industrial partners, and should pay special attention to the user interface. If the project is fully successful, the possibility exists for the postdoc to transition to industry.
Qualifications Required and Preferred Academic Background
The successful applicant will have a recently completed Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as engineering, oceanography, computer sciences, or physics. Excellent skills in writing and organization are essential. Programming experience in such languages as C, Matlab, Javascript, and Python is required. Previous experience with oceanographic instrumentation and data is desired.
Appointment Length/Period – e.g., six months, one year, 01/01/2014-12/31/2015
18 months: July 2019 – December 2020.
