Postdoctoral Associate – Florida A&M University

Responsibilities

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Association Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystem (CCME) led by Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in partnership with Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU), California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB), Jackson State University (JSU), Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC), and the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate who will work with the CCME focus areas and Focal Area Leads. The NOAA-CCME’s primary mission is to educate a new generation of scientists in environmental and closely related NOAA relevant sciences, particularly from underrepresented minority communities who are versed in NOAA-related sciences and the U.S. framework for coastal and ocean planning, and to produce integrated research products in support of marine and coastal management and NOAA’s long term goals for healthy oceans and resilient coastal communities and economies.

Responsibilities for this position are as follows: Coordinates research activities in collaboration with CCME PIs; Assists CCME faculty with laboratory and field-based student research and training activities; Prepares a research doctoral plan and report to include relevant NOAA/CCME research that includes a required 6-month collaborative research visit at a NOAA research facility (location/dates TBD); Conducts research in a NOAA research laboratory; Develops an independent research project in an area of marine/coastal/estuarine ecology, biogeochemistry; Participates and/or develops leveraged research grants; Presents at professional scientific meetings and publishes in peer reviewed journals; Facilitates research experiences for CCME undergraduate and graduate students; Works with CCME undergraduate students to prepare them for other NOAA opportunities; and performs other related duties as assigned by the CCME director.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Marine Science, Environmental Science or related field with experience in coastal, marine, estuarine ecology and/or biochemistry.

Recommended Competencies

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following:

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills;
  • Research experience in a relevant field and demonstrated productivity and evidence for independent research;
  • Experience in field sampling; and
  • Experience in collecting data and managing large databases.

Pay Plan

This is a 12 month Faculty position.
