Postdoc position at the NASA/UTSA Center

The newly NASA funded Center for Advanced Measurements in Extreme Environments is looking for a highly qualified candidate for a postdoctoral research position, for a one-year appointment, which can be extended to 2 years depending on performance. The position is available immediately. Ph.D. from Mechanical Engineering, Geosciences, Atmospheric or Oceanic Sciences or related areas is preferred. The candidate is expected to have excellent programming skills, familiarity with large scale models such as Atmosphere, WRF or ocean models. The job involves developing coupled Atmospheric/Ocean/Polar sea ice models, data analytic tools. Modeling will involve integrations of the models with satellite observations, sensor data and UAV data. Knowledge of CFD, Fluid Dynamics, experience working with models (either Atmosphere or Ocean) is required, and knowledge of python and deep learning algorithms is preferred. The candidate will be working with researchers from UTSA, UCLA (Los Angeles), University of Colorado, Boulder, and NASA centers (JPL, GSFC). The researcher will have access to state-of-the-art supercomputing facilities, field measurements and data. Job duties including conducting original research, model development, writing academic manuscripts. The position is at UTSA (San Antonio, Texas). Some travel involves going to NASA labs and collaborators at UCLA and U Colorado, Boulder.
