Despite longstanding efforts across public and private sectors, there remains a significant lack of diversity in the field of ocean studies. The National Academies are building a committee of approximately 15 volunteer experts to examine the impediments and identify evidence-based approaches for increasing the racial and ethnic diversity of the ocean studies workforce. Nominations will be used to select experts to serve on the committee and will also inform the selection of potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for any publications resulting from the activity.
Nominations are requested for individuals with expertise in areas such as: diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and workforce development; social and behavioral science; and more specifically in ocean science education; ocean science research; and ocean science policy.
