MPOWIR opportunities at OSM22
MPOWIR is hosting several opportunities in conjunction with the Ocean Sciences Meeting in February 2022 (OSM22). We hope you will join us for learning and discussion around the theme of Building Stronger Science Communities through a Sense of Belonging. |
MPOWIR will host a social/networking event ahead of Ocean Sciences on Tuesday, February 22nd at 4:00pm EST. We will meet briefly on Zoom as a large group, then break into smaller groups for brief introductions and discussions around self-selected topics. We’ll then invite attendees to shift to Gather.town for further conversation. Our goal is to maintain the informal feel of an in-person social. This opportunity is open to all genders and career stages. Please RSVP to receive the Zoom link and Gather.town link. Attendees will have the option to suggest and vote on topics ahead of time, and in real time at the event. Current and former mentor group leaders will support discussions in breakout rooms. We envision this to be a casual opportunity for connection, so please feel free to bring a cup of tea, snack, or your pets to join you! |
As part of the official Ocean Sciences program, MPOWIR is holding a Town Hall meeting ‘MPOWIR: Building More Inclusive Science Communities Through Belonging and Uniqueness’ on Friday, February 25th at 10:00am EST. Dr. Stefanie Johnson will present a talk on exploration of belonging and uniqueness within professional communities. Dr. Johnson is an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado, a leader in diversity and inclusion, and the author of Inclusify: Harnessing the power of uniqueness and belonging to build innovative teams. She will share evidence-based and data-driven insights into impactful actions that turn best intentions into increasing diversity and inclusion. Dr. Johnson’s plenary will be followed by a conversation with the audience. |
To foster networking connections, collaborations and support for each other, MPOWIR will host a list of OSM22 presentations (posters, oral presentations, workshops, town halls etc.) by MPOWIR colleagues on the website. Please share the details (title, abstract link, time and location) to the linked form and we will collate and post to the MPOWIR site: http://mpowir.org/get-involved/national-meeting-events/ocean-sciences-meeting-2022/ |
