MPOWIR Newsletter – Fall 2017

MPOWIR Mentor Group Registration:

MPOWIR will be forming new mentor groups this fall.  Groups consist of 6-7 junior women and 2 senior facilitators. Groups meet monthly via conference call and offer coaching, advice and strategies for professional success.  The calls are also an opportunity for senior and junior scientists to share their experiences.

MPOWIR is piloting mentor groups with a particular focus.  At this point, there is expressed interest in a group to facilitate discussion of LGBTQ issues, and groups that meet at unconventional times (i.e. in the evenings or on weekends) to better facilitate work schedules. We are open to exploring other opportunities, and welcome suggestions. These options, and your suggestions, can be emailed to sarah.clem@duke.edu or entered when registering for a group.

MPOWIR Webinars:

This fall MPOWIR will host the second in our new webinar series.  Webinars will feature subjects particularly pertinent to early career scientists. While topics will be driven by input from early career scientists, webinars are open to women and men at all career stages.

NASA MPOWIR Speaker Series:

Applications will open in January 2018.  Explore career opportunities at NASA, tour the Jet Propulsion Laboratory or Goddard Space Flight Center, and present your research to NASA scientists.

MPOWIR at Ocean Sciences:

MPOWIR will host a town hall during the at Ocean Sciences meeting and will also help to facilitate a meet up place to gather with other MPOWIR colleagues. Stay tuned for more details on times and locations.
