MPOWIR at Ocean Sciences
Town Hall: ‘Building an Inclusive Community in Oceanography – How we can all contribute’
Monday, February 17, 2020 – 12:45pm PST
A decade of MPOWIR has demonstrated that mentoring of members of under-represented groups, while beneficial, is not alone sufficient to bring the cultural shift required to produce an inclusive and diverse community of scientists. A plenary by Aradhna Tripati (UCLA), followed by a diverse panel discussion with Jen MacKinnon (UCSD), Kay McMonigal (RSMAS), and Christina Hernandez (MIT) will explore what actions we can all take as a community to improve inclusivity. All members of the oceanographic community, regardless of gender or career stage, are encouraged to participate. Lunch will be provided on a first come basis.
MPOWIR Social: Wednesday, February 19th from 7:00pm-9:00pm at Union Kitchen. Open to all past and current participants and senior scientists involved in MPOWIR activities – come and reconnect! Please RSVP via the included link so we are best able to plan for attendance.
