Assistant Professor of Marine Science – Coastal Carolina University
The School of the Coastal Environment at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a nine month tenure track assistant professor position in the Marine Science department to begin August 2018. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in marine science or related field. Applicants with expertise in any sub-discipline of marine geology are encouraged to apply, although specializations in geo-hazards are encouraged. This position will be expected to teach introductory and upper level marine science courses within the undergraduate marine geology area of emphasis. The applicant is expected to develop a viable externally funded research program in their specialty actively involving graduate and undergraduate students.
Coastal Carolina University is rapidly expanding and building upon a historic emphasis on the marine sciences. Located in the lower coastal plain of northern South Carolina, CCU is surrounded by large areas of natural and anthropogenically impacted wetlands and marine environments. Marine Science is one of the largest undergraduate departments within CCU and is committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary research and education. We seek a highly motivated individual with a commitment to undergraduate education that embraces the teacher scholar model and provides active learning experiences in the classroom as well as in field and research opportunities.
The Marine Science department maintains an undergraduate geology focused teaching laboratory that includes an Emriver Em3 stream table and a Cilas 1190 particle size analyzer. The Burroughs and Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies and the Department of Coastal and Marine Systems Science maintain a broad array of instrumentation and support staff well equipped for broad pursuits especially in geophysical seafloor and sub-bottom mapping, hydrogeology, and hydrodynamic observation and modeling.
