|At IMAU (Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Utrecht), we are looking for a PhD candidate for a tenure track position in Earth System Modelling. The position aims to strengthen Earth System Modelling activities at IMAU in an international context, both in research as well as in the Master’s programme in Climate Physics.
The position is funded by the recently launched sector plan in physics from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. The candidate is expected to develop his or her own research line, which is connected to one or more of the research themes mentioned, and to have the flexibility for interdisciplinary work. The candidate is an inspiring teacher, will play an active role in the Buys Ballot research school and will support undergraduate and graduate education in climate physics.
|The candidate should have a PhD in (Climate) Physics or a closely related field. The candidate should have a strong background, international reputation and publication record in Earth System Modelling; experience with CESM is an advantage, but not a requirement. Moreover, the successful candidate should have excellent communication skills and a lively interest in teaching climate physics. Moreover, a strong commitment to high-quality teaching at BSc, MSc, and PhD levels is required and the candidate is therefore expected to acquire a basic teaching qualification (BKO).|
|We offer a tenure track position (0.8 – 1.0 FTE) for five years in an international working environment. The position will be subject to a mid-term evaluation after approximately 2.5 years and a final evaluation after five years. If evaluations are positive, the position becomes permanent. The criteria to be met and the details of the track will be mutually agreed upon before the appointment, but must include proven success in research and education. The tenure track position Earth System Modelling will be filled at the assistant/associate professor level.
The gross salary – depending on previous qualifications and experience – ranges between €3,225 and €6,738 (scale 10-14 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. In 2017, IMAU research quality and impact were qualified as ‘world leading’ by an international visitation committee. Currently, IMAU employs 15 faculty members, 10 support staff members, approximately 20 postdocs and 20 PhD students. IMAU actively participates in the Netherlands Earth System Science Centre (NESSC).
