Society for Women in Marine Science (SWMS) Research Symposium

Research symposium hosted by Society for Women in Marine Science (SWMS)

October 10, 2015 from 9:00am-5:00pm at MIT in Cambridge, MA.

The Society for Women in Marine Science (SWMS) is holding a fall symposium. “The symposium will showcase the research of prominent faculty speakers, provide a forum to exhibit the work of young female scientists, and include discussions with administrators about improving the status of women in marine science.”

The keynote speaker is Dr. Amy Bower (a longtime MPOWIR mentor). “Dr. Bower studies large and meso-scale ocean circulation, dynamics of western boundary currents and vortices, as well as inter-gyre exchange processes. In addition to conducting her research, she is heavily involved in outreach and education, including a TEDx talk titled “Science without Sight”.”

In addition to Dr. Bower’s presentation, the symposium will include talks by invited speakers, a poster session, networking lunch, and panel session on the role of institutions in supporting women in marine science. People of all genders are invited to attend.
