Research Associate – University of Miami

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), invites applications for a Research Associate II position in Physical Oceanography.  The position is concerned with providing technical and science support to observational programs and will involve close collaboration with scientists at RSMAS and the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML).

The successful applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, or a related field, and at least 2 years of relevant experience in database management and software development for data processing. Necessary technical skills include programming in Matlab other higher-level languages. Experience with the Linux operating systems is necessary.

The incumbent must have excellent written and oral communication skills in order to communicate with a diverse group of people in large collaborative projects.

The incumbent is expected to support operations of NOAA Global Drifter Program’s Data Assembly Center at AOML by developing software, updating and maintaining the data processing system, applying existing quality control procedures to Iridium and Argos drifter data for processing and analysis and its distribution onto the Global Telecommunications System.
