Professorship for Experimental Physical Oceanography – The Universität Hamburg

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate is expected to teach and conduct fundamental research in the field of process-oriented physical oceanography in the open ocean and on improving the requisite observational strategies. The successful candidate is further expected to have an outstanding scientific track record and comprehensive experience in planning and conducting research projects, in particular sea-going research. Finally, the successful candidate is expected to teach experimental oceanography in the BSc program in Geophysics and Physical Oceanography as well as in the consecutive MSc program Ocean and Climate Physics.

The successful candidate should be willing to participate in discipline-specific or interdisciplinary CEN-projects (Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability). He or she also has the opportunity to be involved in KlimaCampus Hamburg, building on established cooperation with the participating institutes (MPI, HZG, and DKRZ, among others) and can benefit from the research expertise on hydrography, marine meteorology, and hydro-biology and fisheries at other institutes in Hamburg.

Further criteria:

Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects. The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.
