About the role
The Ocean Circulation and Processes team is looking to expand by recruiting an experienced and motivated research leader.
This role is to lead excellent and impactful research within the broad field of the physics of ocean, ice and atmosphere in the climate system. Research topics could be inclusive of a range of time and space scales from the large-scale and long-term ocean circulation through to small-scale processes such as mixing, as well as interactions across physical interfaces. The role is part of a dynamic, supportive and innovative team that carries out internationally-significant research into ocean circulation and processes. The role requires effective and innovative leadership and responsibility for the professional development of a team, as well as working in partnership with UK and international research groups.
The NOC Principal Research Scientists are highly accomplished researchers and leaders of significant projects within an overarching research programme. They have international standing, typically with a strong track record of publications and other research outcomes. Working widely with others, Principal Research Scientists are initiators and drivers of strategy and major projects. The role-holder will be expected to take a leadership role in some existing NOC research programmes as well as propose future programmes. The role-holder can expect to be responsible for major challenges and initiatives requiring advanced skills in management, negotiation and persuasion.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced physical oceanographer for this position. Through your record of publications and funding success you will be able to demonstrate your independent thought, invention and ability to innovate. You have a good international standing in your field of research and are experienced in leading medium to large research programmes to successful outcomes. You have a strong record of high quality research in climate and ocean circulation processes. You have experience of managing teams of students and researchers to enable their research success and career development.
