About the role:
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher position in NOC’s Marine Physics and Ocean climate (MPOC) group investigating and large-scale ocean uptake and heat and carbon. The successful candidate will undertake targeted research tasks to contribute to large research projects and support the communication and management of these projects.
The focus of the research tasks will be on the analysis of observations and observational products to quantify variability of ocean properties and ocean circulation and identify the impacts of that variability on the oceans role in the climate system. The initial focus will be in the South Atlantic and will include an analysis of data from Argo floats to identify the importance of Indian Ocean waters in setting the properties of the upper 1000m.
The post will also contribute to the communication of these research tasks and the achievements of the broader projects (AtlantOS and SMURPHS) within which the tasks sit through publications and presentations.
The post holder will also support the communication and delivery of the NERC-funded research projects, TICTOC and ABC-fluxes. Working with Principal Investigator Elaine McDonagh this role will include ensuring delivery of these projects and communicating the achievements of the projects to project investigators and other key stakeholders.
This is a Fixed Term Appointment, with funding on a full-time basis for two years offered on NERC terms and conditions and open to internal and external candidates. We welcome applications for full and part-time working.
This is a postdoctoral researcher (Band 6) position and the salary band will be £28,200 to £30,600 per annum.
For part-time posts, the salary will be calculated on a pro rata basis and all part-time employees will have full access to NERC benefits.
Hours of Work:
The hours of working are 37 hours per week for a full-time post and reduced pro-rata for a part-time post.
The successful applicants will be motivated and productive scientists, joining a network of International researchers involved as project partners, investigators, postdoctoral researchers and students. The ability to work as part of such a team is essential.
