Postdoctoral Research Scientist – Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory

Summary Description:

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in tropical physical oceanography of relevance to seasonal to decadal climate variability and change. The successful candidate will work on a NSF funded project on the physical oceanographic causes of sea surface temperature states that causes extreme weather and climate events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a PhD in either physical oceanography or climate, atmospheric and related sciences with a concentration in physical oceanography and a keen interest in tropical physical oceanographic problems of relevance to climate variability and change including upper ocean dynamics and air-sea interaction.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated skill in the ability to analyze and manipulate large and disparate datasets and familiarity with diagnosis of ocean Reanalyses and ocean general circulation models is preferred.

Additional Information:

The position will be located at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, NY in the research group of Richard Seager, Mark Cane and Ryan Abernathy.

Appointment will be for 1 year, with continuation pending funding and progress.
