Postdoctoral Fellows – UNSW
About the role
Applications are sought for two Postdoctoral Fellows to work on ARC Laureate funded projects with ARC Laureate Professor Trevor McDougall.
The positions will be in Sydney at UNSW Australia, initially for a fixed-term of 3 years. An extension for a further period may be possible depending on availability of funding. The positions are available from 2nd May 2016.
About you
Although an experience in one or more of the following three areas of physical oceanography is preferred, all candidates with strong qualifications in a relevant field of mathematics and physical oceanography are encouraged to apply and will be carefully considered:
1. Ocean mixing processes (including topographically forced tidal mixing and the implications of mixing being intensified near boundaries, the implications of the non-linear equaton of state on ocean mixing processes) and their representation in numerical ocean models.
2. The formation of approximately neutral surfaces and their possible use as a coordinate in future ocean models.
3. Hydrographic inverse models to estimate the mean circulation and the intensity of mixing processes in the ocean.
The successful applicants will play a leading role within a collaborative research team and, in collaboration with other team members, are expected to publish in leading international journals.
Applicants should have a PhD degree or be close to completing one.
Applicants may be required to undergo pre-employment checks prior to appointment to these roles. Applicants should systematically address the selection criteria in their applications.
