Post-Doctoral Associate – University of Miami
The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in Physical Oceanography. The position will involve using observations and simple models to improve our understanding of tropical Atlantic climate and its connections to atmospheric circulation and continental rainfall. The research will involve close collaboration with scientists at RSMAS and NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML).The incumbent will be responsible for conducting research to identify global or basin-scale processes relevant to oceans and climate and utilizing data from the networks operated by NOAA’s Global Ocean Observing System. He or she will also be responsible for processing and analyzing data, presenting findings at scientific meetings, and publishing results in scientific journals.
Minimum education is a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography, Climate Science, or a related field. Desirable qualifications include knowledge of upper-ocean and coupled ocean-atmosphere processes, excellent computational skills, and good communication skills. Experience in at least one of the following will be advantageous: Time series analysis of oceanographic and surface atmospheric data, analysis of large satellite data sets or model output, or modeling of the coupled ocean-atmosphere system.
