Oceanographic Engineer – Ocean Moorings x 2 – NIWA

We are seeking 2 capable engineers experienced in the design, construction and deployment of oceanographic moorings (coastal and offshore) from a variety of platforms. They will be joining our Ocean Observations team and will be actively involved in our coastal and off-shore measurement programmes around New Zealand, Antarctica, and the Southern Ocean.
The successful applicants will have a tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in marine science or engineering, will have a well-developed field skillset with the operation and maintenance of oceanographic equipment, as well as the experience and confidence to lead the deployment and recovery of these systems. They will need excellent communication and project management skills, be well-organised and responsive to project deadlines, be adept at problem solving and have the ability to effectively prioritise and work unsupervised.
There is also the potential for development in these roles to work with other systems such as ocean gliders and acoustic profiling systems or to further develop data analysis skills. Previous experience in the analysis of oceanographic data would be advantageous but is not essential.
