MPOWIR –  Past, Present, and Future

Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention (MPOWIR) has been active for nearly a decade offering mentoring through conferences and small groups as well as internship opportunities.  Where should MPOWIR head in the future?  An overview of MPOWIR and an assessment of its impact by a panel of program participants will set the stage for a lively discussion of how MPOWIR can best influence retention of women into the future. All members of the physical oceanographic community and related disciplines, regardless of gender or career stage, are encouraged to participate.  Lunch will be provided for the first 75 attendees.

2.  NASA MPOWIR Speaker Series: Applications are open and will be accepted until March 18, 2016.  Explore career opportunities at NASA, tour the Jet Propulsion Laboratory or Goddard Space Flight Center, and present your research to NASA scientists.

3.  Steering Committee: MPOWIR will soon be accepting nominations for the Steering Committee.  This will include opportunities for both senior scientists and participants. Learn more at the OSM16 Town Hall, and on the MPOWIR website.

4.  Survey: MPOWIR will be conducting a community survey this spring.  Participation by all members of the oceanographic community, regardless of gender, career stage or employment sector, would be greatly appreciated.  More information will be available soon via the website and email.
