The 2019 Gordon Conference on Coastal Ocean Dynamics synthezises recent advances in the understanding of circulation and fluid dynamical processes in the coastal ocean. Recent advances in observational and numerical modeling techniques, as well as a number of interdisciplinary field studies, have led to significant progress in our understanding of coastal ocean processes. In order to capture the diverse and dynamic nature of the field, the conference will feature sessions spanning a wide range of temporal and spatial scales, environments and processes. Meeting sessions will include topics ranging from sediment dynamics, nearshore physics, biological-biochemical feedbacks with fluid mechanics and circulation processes, submesoscale and small-scale dynamics to breakthroughs in the study of estuaries, and tackling the frontiers of coastal physical oceanography and ocean-derived energy. Besides examining the forefront of discovery and theoretical advances in coastal dynamics, emphasis will also be placed on scientific advances resulting from recent developments in measurement, analysis, and modeling techniques.

The 2019 Gordon Research Conference on Coastal Ocean Dynamics will be supplemented by a Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) to be held on the weekend prior to the GRC. The Gordon Research Seminar is a meeting of graduate student researchers and postdoctoral scientists working on coastal ocean dynamics, and provides them with an opportunity to present and discuss work with their peers.

The Gordon Research Conference brings together a diverse collection of physical oceanographers, including experimentalists, modelers, and theoreticians, who are at the forefront of their fields. All attendees are encouraged to present their work in poster format to facilitate the exchange of ideas and the development of new collaborations. In keeping with the traditions of the conference, opportunities for informal interactions will be scheduled in the afternoons in order to maximize time for attendees to enjoy the recreational facilities of the conference site.

The Gordon Research Seminar on Coastal Ocean Dynamics is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.

This meeting focuses on contemporary issues in coastal physical oceanography. The sessions will feature talks and posters that examine the physical dynamics of estuaries and the coastal ocean, including scientific advances from observational, numerical, and theoretical analyses.

The Coastal Ocean Dynamics Seminar attendees are strongly encouraged to also stay for the Gordon Research Conference immediately following to interact with scientists from a broad set of career stages.
