Assistant Professors in Weather and Climate Science, Earth Observation, and Air Quality – Delft University of Technology
Teaser
Are you ready for a next career step and to help us understand more about the interaction between human activities, the Earth system, and our living environment?
Job description
Anthropogenic climate change is one of the major challenges mankind is facing. In the department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing, within the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at TU Delft, we want to understand the interaction between human activities, the Earth system, and our living environment. We do this through the combination of observational data science and physical modelling.
Nine new positions
We are now investing in new fields of research. We are looking for nine enthusiastic and collaborative colleagues in weather and climate science, air quality studies, earth science and earth observation. We have openings in a diverse range of fields:
- The role of cloud microphysics in climate and weather
- The interaction between oceans and atmosphere: impact on weather and climate
- The interaction between oceans and ice sheets: impact on sea level rise
- Understanding extreme rainfall in a changing climate
- Data science to assess climate impacts: digital twins
- E-science for high resolution weather and climate modelling
- Understanding air quality: a data driven approach
- Satellite remote sensing of clouds and aerosols
- Optical remote sensing of the natural and built environment
Are you interested in an academic career in one these areas? We are offering tenure track positions for early career scientists as well as career paths for senior researchers, depending on experience.
Who are we looking for?
Intentionally, we refrain from giving a detailed job description of the different vacancies as we strongly believe that academic staff should pursue and develop their own line of science. We aim to compose a well-balanced and diverse team of colleagues with different skills and expertise in earth observation, numerical modelling, and/or scientific data analysis, blending in with the department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing.
Interested? We invite you to apply for a position in the field(s) of your interest
Besides research, key job responsibilities of this job include;
Education: contributing to the development and teaching of graduate courses in our new MSc programs Environmental Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences)
Organization: Contributing to organizational / administrative activities and committees with the Department and Faculty.
Projects: Initiating and contributing to new research projects. We encourage proactive engagement with both government and private partners for increased societal impact.
Requirements
Our general job requirements are:
- A PhD in a relevant discipline.
- An affinity with teaching, preferably with teaching experience.
- The ability to build successful professional relationships.
- An appreciation for a culturally diverse environment.
But of course, we want to learn about your vision and plans for the domain of your expertise. What is your scientific drive and motivation? What do you want to do? What is your vision on education?
Conditions of employment
Our intention is to offer you a permanent position after a probation period in which you will be evaluated based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment. We expect that you have the potential to grow towards an Associate Professor and/or Full Professor role in the future.
Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme.
