Civil & Environmental Engineering Faculty Position – Assistant or Associate Professor
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Houston invites applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty position. The appointment is open at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank and for the broad area of water resource engineering with particular interest in, but not limited to, study of: the water-energy nexus, coastal resilience and vulnerability, natural hazards, hydrologic data assimilation, water resources management, and the application of state-of-the-art airborne/spaceborne remote sensing techniques to these research areas. Candidates applying at the Associate Professor rank are expected to demonstrate nationally and internationally recognized scholarly activities with a strong record of externally funded research. The candidates must also demonstrate a commitment towards teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, or in a closely related field at the time of appointment. Successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain an internationally recognized, cross-disciplinary research program in collaboration with the current faculty in the Department, College, and University. Preference will be given to candidates that can make an impact across disciplinary boundaries particularly those closely related to civil engineering.
University and Department: The University of Houston is located in a park-like campus a few minutes from downtown Houston with nearly 37,000 undergraduate students and 8,000 graduate students. The CEE department currently has 22 tenured or tenure-track faculty members. Current enrollment is over 270 undergraduate students, and over 200 graduate students. Houston is the fourth largest city in the U.S. with over 6 million in population. It is the “energy capital of the world” and houses the largest medical center in the world. The greater Houston area offers state-of-the-art recreational facilities, world-class arts and cultural activities, excellent schools, and affordable housing.
Time Frame: The start date for this appointment is September 1, 2018. Applications received before January 1, 2018 will be given priority and the review will continue until the position is filled.
